Santa Claus

Moș Crăciun
Santa Claus

A bit of magic lies inside me

Ever since my childhood years,

And it keeps on growing,

And rising like dough,

Soon it will come true.

Here is how I know it: Once upon a time,

Back when the whole wide world was

Kind, and warm, and full of smiles,

In a place, far far away,

There was an old man who decided

He wanted his name written with a capital "S",

And so he made up his mind

To do a mighty fine thing:

To fly across the borders,

To hand out joys, to many,

and to children most of all.

I was an older child by then,

I still am, but I believe even harder now,

That the old man hasn't forgotten me,

Anyway, I'm rambling on,

Let me tell you what I must.

I spoke with the old man yesterday

And he told me he admits

That I have been a well-behaved child

And that I deserve a gift.

I said to him, pleading,

That if he wished to give me something,

He should pull from his sack

Something unexpected.

And then he was quite scolded,

-What? he said to me,

You're not asking for anything?

I said:

-No, I'll leave it up to you,

Since you say you know me best.

Then he kept insisting:

-Won't you at least give me a hint?

-No, that's just a whim of mine,

If you'd like to give to me,

give me whatever you think,

And just like that, I tell you true,

I woke up on Christmas Day,

And went to make my coffee,

A long one, with milk.

I passed right by the Christmas tree,

I tripped over the doorstep.

I stubbed my little toe,

On the leg of the sofa.

My word, I called upon the saints,

And kept on assuring them

There was food in the fridge,

So all was well. What was I to wish for?

Since it was the crack of dawn,

I banged my fist on the cupboard,

I calmed down at once.

Everyone was bustling about the house,

-Mum, the eldest one cried out,

This is your gift!

Oh, how happy I was,

It was small, but heavy, and lovely,

Wrapped in glittery paper,

I unwrapped it half afraid.

And then, out of nowhere, laughter,

And not just any laughter…peals of it…

-You've been given a cheese as a gift!

What can I say, it wasn't very nice,

But at least it was tasty.

And that is what happened to me,

I'm clearly keeping my magic,

That's the whole joy of it,

Only next year

I'm going to ask for one clear thing,

Maybe…something you can't eat.
